Famous Stars
Antares
I chose famous stars to research next because I am very interested in learning about the stars I’ve seen every night, but never knew anything about.
Known as Alpha Scorpii, Antares is a red supergiant is one of the largest and most luminous star you can see with the naked eye. Its name is greek for “rival to Mars” (Ares) - referring to its reddish appearance, which resembles Mars. It is the seventeenth brightest star in the night sky and the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius. It was believed to be part of the 4 districts that ‘guarded heaven’. It is ecliptic. Also it is beautiful.
